KUCHING, Aug 4: The Sarawak government is giving a special one-off financial assistance of RM10,000 to active businesses registered in Sarawak under the Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) 7.0 package.
Announcing this special aid to overcome the economic fallout caused by the Covid-19 pandemic today, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the decision was made after considering several requests from business associations and guilds.
“I have received requests from the business associations and federations for financial assistance to sustain their businesses, particularly to cover their operational cost, including rental and wages of their employees, especially the small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
“In this regard, the Sarawak government will provide a special one-off financial assistance of RM10,000 for active businesses in Sarawak registered with SOCSO as of Dec 31, 2020,” said Abang Johari when announcing BKSS 7.0 today.
He said the the measure will help to ease the financial burden of approximately 40,000 active businesses in Sarawak and it will cost the Sarawak government a direct expenditure of more than RM400 million.
“This special financial assistance will be paid in two tranches: RM5,000 in September and the remaining RM5,000 will be paid in December 2021,” said Abang Johari.
Eligible business owners do not need to apply for it. Payment will be made directly to those entitling for the aid. — DayakDaily
