KUCHING, Sept 2: This year’s Sarawak-level Malaysia Day 2025 celebration will take place in Bintulu, featuring a series of official and community-oriented events from September 14 to 16.
In a press conference today, in which the audio recording was made available to the media, the minister in charge, Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, who is also the Minister for Modernisation of Agriculture and Regional Development Sarawak, said that the celebration will start with the Interfaith Thanksgiving Ceremony organised by the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) on September 14 at 8pm at the Imperial Hotel, which is expected to be attended by 800 people.
This will be followed by a Thanksgiving Ceremony organised by the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) on September 15, which will be held at the Assyakirin Mosque at 6pm, with an expected attendance of 1,000 people.
On the morning of September 16, the Malaysia Day Run will take place at 6am at the Bintulu Civic Centre. Organised by the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA), it is expected to see about 3,000 participants.
Later in the night, the highlight of the celebration will be at the Old Bintulu Airport, with an estimated attendance of around 10,000 people in the evening.
Organised by the Sarawak Protocol, Ceremony and Event Management Unit (UPPANS), Bintulu Resident’s Office, and Sarawak Arts Council (MSS), it will start at 8pm, which will be followed by the Konsert Rakyat at 10.30pm featuring various cultural dance and music performances by local talents as well as popular artists from Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak.
The celebration will also see the attendance of Sarawak governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, as well as Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“Malaysia Day holds deep significance not just for Sarawak, but for the entire nation. It represents the strength that drives development, both for the country and for Sarawak itself. Most importantly, it embodies the spirit that unites us.
“The spirit of unity, love for the nation, and pride in Sarawak must be instilled in every layer of society and every generation. It is this shared spirit that enables us to achieve success and progress.
“The true significance of Malaysia Day lies in witnessing and experiencing these changes ourselves,” said Dr Rundi.
The press conference was held following a meeting with the committee organising the celebration.
