KUCHING, Dec 3: Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing will be contesting under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) flag in Dudong in the upcoming 12th Sarawak Election (PRN12).
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg confirmed this just minutes ago following the writ handover to all 82 GPS candidates at Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters here today.
With this, it is now affirmed that Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Dudong chief Wong Ching Yong, who has been keen to contest in the constituency, has failed to be elected as a candidate.
On Nov 12, the SUPP Dudong branch received packages of election materials from GPS headquarters, so Wong was confident that the issue of Tiong, who is also Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president, intending to contest in Dudong had been settled amicably.
Rumours of PDP’s great interest in Dudong started when Tiong was seen moving on the ground in Sibu, visiting longhouses in the constituency.
On Aug 2, when DayakDaily interviewed him, he neither admitted nor denied speculation that he would contest in one of the Sibu constituencies and had only expressed interest in serving Sibu, his birthplace, where he grew up before moving to Bintulu. — DayakDaily
