Bintulu MP: Opposition not prepared for election, full of excuses

Dato Sri Tiong King Sing

KUCHING, Nov 25: It seems like the Opposition is finding excuses for not being prepared for the 12th Sarawak State Elections (PRN12) by employing half-baked talking points against the State government, said Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sin.

Tiong said the Opposition has been running down the Sarawak government with baseless accusations but to no vail.

“Now they are slamming the State government for ‘being ignorant about the pandemic’, hastily ending the Emergency to have elections but this is all nothing but another lame attempt by the Opposition to gain what little political capital they can,” he said.

Calling their strategy “opportunistic politics”, he said they are merely trying to delay the elections until they are ready to go on election campaigns.

Tiong reiterated the significance and urgency to hold PRN12 whenever the Covid-19 situation allows so as to return the mandate to the people when Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has reached the end of its term as government last June, 2021.

“To further delay the election dates could lead to the Opposition taking the issue to court to challenge the validity of the government since its mandate had ended,” he said in a statement yesterday (Nov 24).

He also said the decision to allow the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) was reached only after much consideration and a series of discussions between departments to determine that the pandemic was easing in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
