BINTULU, Jan 20: The lane leading from Medan Jaya towards Meridian Central will be temporarily closed to allow excavation works and the installation of a temporary pipeline to combat flash floods in the area.

In a Facebook post today, Bintulu MP Dato Seri Tiong King Sing said continuous rainfall and ongoing road improvements works has caused the existing culvert in front of Meridian Central to become severely clogged, causing water to accumulate on the roads in the area and causing congestion.

“When I was informed of this situation, I immediately instructed the Public Works Department (JKR) to take emergency measures.

“A temporary drainage pipe crossing the road is now being installed to channel water to the drainage system on the opposite side.

“This should effectively reduce the pressure on the current drainage system and lower the risk of flash floods,” he said.

Tiong, who is also the Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, also requested that the public give their cooperation as emergency works are being carried out and thanked the relevant agencies for their efforts to manage the situation effectively. — DayakDaily
