KUCHING, April 9: A manager at a private company in Bintulu suffered a loss of RM140,000 after falling victim of a non-existent gold investment scheme promising exorbitant returns.
Sarawak police commissioner Dato Mancha Ata said the victim, who was in her 30s was drawn to a gold investment scheme introduced by a man on Instagram on March 25.
He stated that the man known as ‘Gao Yun Ze’ then gave the victim an Internet link so that she could register and begin investing.
“The suspect proceeded to explain the investment to the victim, making enticing promises of a profit of RM102,000 within the same day.
“The victim, who was attracted by the offer, made 10 payment transactions for investment purposes totaling RM140,000 through money transfers to three different accounts from the end of March to the beginning of April,” he said in a statement yesterday (April 8).
Mancha said the victim realised she had been duped when she didn’t received any of the promised returns.
“Any profits and investment capital as promised have not been received.
“The total loss of the victim is approximately RM140,000,” he added.
The victim lodged a police report and further investigations are ongoing. — DayakDaily
