KUCHING, Nov 4: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Central Executive Committee member Dr John Brian Anthony is now Bintulu Port Authority (BPA) chairman.
His appointment took effect immediately after signing the contract with Minister of Transport Anthony Loke today at the state DAP ordinary convention.
Loke told reporters that John’s appointment was approved by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad following a proposal by the state DAP, endorsed by state Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Chong Chieng Jen.
John told reporters that he would have to start work as BPA chairman immediately to ensure the port’s operation would be running efficiently and effectively.
The previous BPA chairman was Hadzari Abang.
“This is something very close to my heart as I am born and bred in Bintulu. I will try to bring down the cost of goods that goes through the port, and make sure that stakeholders and port users receive the best of services from the port that is the property of the government,” he said.
John has vast experience running major global corporate bodies including Nestle and Johnson and Johnson.
Born in Sebauh, Bintulu, John holds a PhD in Management from Southern Cross University, Australia and has been carrying out management consultancy in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. — DayakDaily
