KUCHING, Aug 24: Bintulu reverts to yellow zone with two new local transmission cases of Covid-19 today, said State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

Cases 695 and 696 involving a local chargeman in one of the Bintulu oil rigs and an Indonesian working as an insulator in the Samalaju industrial area were the trigger of the conversion from green to yellow status.

“Today, Bintulu district has changed from green status to yellow after two new local cases were reported.

“Kuching area remains the status of yellow with four cases reported in the past 14 days as well as the additional three new cases today,” he said during a press conference on Covid-19 updates today.

With that, he said two districts in Sarawak have yellow zone status and 38 districts remained as green zone.

Meanwhile, Uggah also announced that 50 per cent of the total capacity of an event venue is permitted for public gatherings effective tomorrow (August 25).

“After today’s meeting, SDMC has agreed that for social and official events involving public gatherings, 50 per cent capacity is allowed according to the size of space and physical distancing.

“It means that if the venue is enough for 1,000 individuals, we are allowing 500 individuals to attend the event with the condition that all is required to practice social distancing,” he said. —DayakDaily
