Bintangor SAR efforts for missing elderly woman suspended

BINTANGOR, Nov 21: Despite seven days of extensive search, rescuers could not locate Chemeral Mering, 63, from Rh Lingoh, Ng Engkeranji.

Chemeral was reported missing by her family members on Nov 15 after she failed to return home, following an interview at Pakan District Welfare Office.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre in a statement confirmed search efforts were suspended after today’s search and discussions between family members, police and longhouse villagers.


However, villagers will continue the search on their own and to inform the authorities if there are new leads.

Over the course of seven days, firefighters and police including their respective K9 unit along with local community members conducted extensive ground search from plantation estate to jungle and hills with zero results.

They were assisted by Bomba STORM and MUST special unit, and members from the Civil Defence Force as well.

However, rescuers found Chemeral’s belongings such as toothbrush, clothing, a flash light, some medicine, a bag, foot and hand prints.

Bintangor Bomba chief Nicholas Belulin also disclosed that the victim’s family conducted a ‘miring’ ceremony not far from where her personal belongings were found on Nov 19. — DayakDaily
