KUCHING, June 25: All 13 bin centres in the MJC commercial centre in Batu Kawah were demolished, and communal bins were removed to address illegal dumping and improve waste collection coordination.

Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Tan Kai said that these measures followed agreements reached in two joint meetings held in January and March this year involving the Council, Trienekens, management committees, and two property management companies to ensure the cleanliness of MJC.

With all common bins removed, he explained that each of the 50 buildings across 13 blocks, housing 615 units, were allocated with a 240-litre bin.

“The management committees are tasked with maintaining these bins.

“The actions taken have yielded positive outcomes, resulting in the residents and shopowners expressing satisfaction and comfort with the clean surroundings,” he said in a statement today.

Tan highlighted that some ramp facilities behind the building blocks are still under construction to facilitate waste collection with the provided bins.

He warned that the Council will not hesitate to take legal action against anyone caught disposing of small or large amounts of bulky waste in the area.

“Offenders will be fined RM1,000 for the first offence, and RM2,000 or imprisonment of six months or both for the second or subsequent offences, as stipulated under the By-Law 18(1) or (2) of the Local Authorities (Cleanliness) By-Laws, 1999,” he added.

Tan also encouraged residents and the general public to assist the Council by reporting any suspicious activities related to illegal dumping.

“This will contribute to maintaining Padawan as a clean and brighter city for everyone’s benefit,” he concluded. ā€” DayakDaily
