Bill to amend constitution resembles a `big trick’ — political analyst

Dato Peter Minos

KUCHING, April 5: The proposed amendment of Article 1(2) of the Federal Constitution by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government is neither sincere nor fair to Sarawak and Sabah as there is nothing specific to state that the three regions are equal partners, said political observer Dato Peter Minos.

“The proposed amendment by the PH government is not an amendment at all. It will not, if passed, change or alter anything. It is not an amendment in words or in spirit. It looks like a big trick, not sincerely and not honestly done.

“No wonder Sarawak and Sabah MPs went against the proposed amendment. Sarawak and Sabah are totally fed up of the PH federal government playing tricks.

“Both Sarawak and Sabah do not like to be conned anymore as in the past. What Sarawak and Sabah are saying is ‘enough is enough’,” Minos said today.

Minos, who is a former PBB deputy information chief, pointed out that Sarawak and Sabah were equal in status with Peninsular Malaysia,

“If, and only if, all three regions have one-third each of all things, such as wealth from resources, national finance, representatives in Parliament, civil service, agencies, police, army, judiciary and others, only then there is equality. Short of this, there is no equality. Equality in words means nothing,” he stressed.

Thus, he hoped that the PH government would review and rethink the above matters for the sake of Malaysia for its long-term stability and well-being. — DayakDaily
