SIBU, Dec 11: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for Bawang Assan, Senator Robert Lau has big plans for the constituency if he wins in the 12th Sarawak Election.

Speaking at a press conference to unveil his election manifesto today, Lau called on voters to elect a representative who they can trust.

“We were the government of the day before the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly. I hope the people of Bawang Assan will continue supporting the leadership of (Chief Minister) Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“I have been in politics for so long and I believe you must have a leader that you can trust. A lot of people don’t believe in politics because there is a lack of trust,” he said.

“I have served in Sibu Municipal Council for 10 years, Sibu Rural District Council for fouir years and have served for a year and a half as a senate member. Judge me by my actions,” he added.

He added that that one must “walk the talk” by ensuring that one delivers as promised.

Lau said he would work to solve the low water pressure experienced by the communities in the area, improve electricity supply, build two new bridges, and upgrade internet connectivity if elected.

He added that power outages were also quite frequent due to overloading.

The flood problem that affects low-lying areas in Bawang Assan also needs to be looked into.

He also plans to build a mini-library in the longhouses so that students will have a conducive atmosphere for study.

Lau is locked in a five-cornered fight for the seat with incumbent Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), Amy Lau Bik Yieng from the Democratic Action Party (DAP), Michelle Ling Shyan Mih from Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK), and independent Ricky Enteri. — DayakDaily
