KUCHING, Nov 7: A strong Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) victory in the upcoming 13th Sarawak Election is crucial to maintaining political stability and recognising Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s leadership over the past four years, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof.
Speaking at the launch of the Sarawak Kita Empun 3.0 programme in Kuching today, Fadillah said GPS played an important role in maintaining political stability at the Federal level amid political divisions in Peninsular Malaysia.
“Without GPS, political stability might be difficult to achieve,” he said, citing political developments in Negeri Sembilan, Johor and Melaka as examples of differing positions among political parties.
He contrasted this with Sarawak’s political stability, which he attributed to clear policies under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) and consistent leadership.
He said the state’s clear policies and political stability had also helped attract foreign investors, including SoftBank, whose representatives met directly with Abang Johari.
“Investors come directly to Sarawak, not through Peninsular Malaysia. SoftBank came to Sarawak and met with our Premier. Many ambassadors from Europe and other countries have also come to meet him because our policies are clear and our political stability is strong,” he added.
Fadillah said a strong GPS mandate would allow Sarawak to continue setting its own development priorities and reduce its dependence on the Federal Government.
He urged the coalition to target all 82 seats in the coming election, including all 47 seats contested by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), with large majorities.
“Out of 82 seats, we want to win all 82. It may be difficult, but it is not impossible if we work together as one team with our component party partners,” he declared.
Fadillah said a strong electoral mandate would recognise Abang Johari’s efforts over the past four years, particularly in securing funds for infrastructure projects and delivering assistance to the people.
“Another reason we need a big victory is to show our appreciation to Abang Johari for his hard work over the past four years,” he said. — DayakDaily
