Bidayuh’s hospitality has led many to participate in tourism sector

BAU, May 1: A lion’s share of hospitable Bidayuhs have led to their participation in the tourism industry.

Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah pointed out that most are very educated partly because they are staying near the city and the hospitality and tourism industry are mainly participated by the Bidayuh community.

“You can go to any of the hotels in Kuching (and) most of those working there are from the Bidayuh community.

“For their employer to bring them in means that they have the character and personality that attract others or have this pleasant outlook in welcoming guests. Or else, they won’t be working in the hotels,” he said when officiating Bung Bratak Day 2023, held today at Bung Bratak Heritage Centre (BBHC).

He also mentioned that tourists would always feel welcomed when visiting a Bidayuh village or area.

“I’ve been to quite a number (of Bidayuh areas) around here, such as Bau, Padawan Raft Safari at Kampung Semadang, Silabur Cave in Serian and Bukar-Sadong area. All the time, I always feel welcomed.

“That is the special character of the Bidayuh, which I believe would augur well with the tourism industry,” he added.

Amongst those present were BBHC chairman Datuk Peter Minos, Deputy Minister of Transport (Maritime and Riverine) Dato Henry Harry Jinep who is Tasik Biru assemblyman, Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol, Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh and Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang.
