SIBU, March 16: Residents here are urged to rely on trustworthy sources for updates and developments on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, after the widespread circulation of fake news via social media that the state was in lockdown.

Sibu MP Oscar Ling also urged people to stay calm despite the lack of face masks and hand sanitizers in the market, as well as to look after their own health and avoid public gatherings.

“Regularly wash your hands with soap, and take precautions advised by the government to prevent the spread of the disease.

“As more Covid-19 cases come to light, it is hoped that the people of Sibu can take care of their health so that the spread of the disease can be controlled,” he added.

As of March 15, a total of 20 Covid-19 positive cases have been recorded in the state.

Meanwhile, Ling also reminded Sibu residents who might have come into contact with individuals suspected of carrying Covid-19 to get tested at Sibu Hospital and receive medical advice.

“I advise residents of Sibu who might have symptoms such as fever, cough and shortness of breath to immediately seek treatment at Sibu Hospital to curb the outbreak. Any Sibu resident returning from a hotspot area with Covid-19 cases should also seek treatment at Sibu Hospital,” he added. — DayakDaily
