KUCHING, Aug 9: The best female camper of the PETRONAS BeDigital Bootcamp (BDB), Audrey Stefanie Julip has received two employment offers following her exceptional performance during the 12-day curated BDB programme.

She said the two employment offers she had received were from JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration and PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP).

The 24-year-old was ecstatic as she genuinely did not expect to receive the offers, and was happy with the outcome of the BDB programme.

When asked by reporters which company she would choose, Audrey said she would consider her options and conduct further research, though she did anticipate an offer from PTTEP since they called her in for a second assessment during the BDB programme.

Though Audrey might be assigned outside of Kuching or even Sarawak for her job, she remained optimistic, despite the prospect of being away from home.

“I believe in broadening my horizons. I have been in Kuching my entire life, and if I’m able to go outside of Kuching, or even outside of Malaysia, given the opportunity, it will be a good chance for me to widen my experience in the chemical engineering industry,” she said when met by reporters after the BDB closing ceremony Cohort-8 at a hotel in Kuching tonight.

Caven Tang Than Yek, 23, who was named the best male camper of the BDB programme, also expressed his disbelief at receiving a job offer from Sarawak Energy Berhad.

“I am actually very shocked (to be awarded the best male camper) because there’s so many other people who performed much better than me, more fantastic leaders,” he said.

Caven, who is a University of Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) student had only recently submitted his final year project and completed his exams prior to attending the BDB programme, and gave his all during the programme.

“The only thing I can do is to express my gratitude to my teammates as well as the PETRONAS staff for guiding us the whole way.”

For Caven, it was less about the destination and more about the journey he experienced during the BDB programme—discussing with teammates, brainstorming, learning from PETRONAS, and gaining valuable insights from the interviewers themselves.

A total of 43 conditional job and internship offers were handed out by 24 hiring partners of PETRONAS to the campers of their choice during the closing ceremony of the BDB programme.

PETRONAS continued its BDB programme in Sarawak for the second year running, with a total of 99 participants from seven universities, along with the support of 24 hiring partners.

BDB is a digital skills empowerment programme aimed at enhancing local undergraduates’ digital literacy to improve their employability and meet the demands of current and future job markets.

“By doing this, we hope that our campers will not only be successful professionally, but also become active contributors to the growth of Sarawak and the nation,” said PETRONAS senior vice president of project delivery and technology, Ir Mohd Yusri Mohamad Yusof during his speech.
