BESarawak drives RM445.3 mln economic boost with 150 events by 2030, exceeds target by 107 pct

KUCHING, Dec 2: Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) has surpassed expectations, securing 150 events from 2025 to 2030 and exceeding its target by 107 per cent, Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said.

According to him, through these events, the State is projected to generate RM247.45 million in direct delegate expenditure and RM27.32 million in tax revenue, translating to a total economic impact of RM445.3 million.

“Major events secured for 2026 include the Asian Congress on Occupational Health and the International Council on Monuments and Sites Triennial General Assembly, each targeting 2,000 delegates.

“Sarawak will also host the International Council on Archives Conference 2027, expected to attract more than 1,000 delegates, following the official handover in Barcelona on October 31, 2025,” he said during his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today.

In 2025, Sarawak hosted 130 business events, generating RM413.14 million in economic impact, with RM224.53 million in direct delegate spending and RM24.78 million in tax revenue.

Key events included the International Energy Week 2025, Asia Pacific Hospice Palliative Care Conference 2025, Sustainability and Renewable Energy Forum 4.0, the 23rd World Veterinary Poultry Association Congress 2025, and the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak 2025, collectively drawing thousands of delegates and visitors.
