MIRI, May 14: Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) Sarawak has formed a welfare services unit known as Pelayanan Kebajikan & Sosial (Pekesos) which aims to reach out to needy members and the community.

BEM Sarawak plans to establish Pekesos in all divisions in Sarawak in the near future.

Dennis in his opening remarks, lauded the formation of Pekesos as he believed it facilitated BEM’s efforts to extend help to those in need, including disaster victims such as those affected by flood or fire.

“It is the way we engage with the people in the community regardless of their background and religions,” he said.

Dennis also pointed out that such engagement with the community encourages volunteerism among the church members.

“Such acts, help to instill the spirit of helping others,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dennis suggested that BEM Sarawak submit a working paper to request for land from the Sarawak government to build a centre.

“When you own the building, you don’t have to rent anymore,” he said.

At the event, Dennis has also announced a grant worth RM50,000 for Pekesos BEM Miri.

“Starting this year, until 2025, I pledge allocations worth RM50,000 to Pekesos BEM Miri,” he said.
