DARO, Feb 20: Belawai constituency will be in good hands come Sarawak Election, says its assemblyman Datuk Len Talif.
To him, any candidate who represents Sarawak’s ruling coalition, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), in the Belawai constituency is virtually assured of victory, thanks to the various initiatives spearheaded by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“I have strong support from the people but I cannot assume that I am going to stand again because it’s up to the Premier.
“With the initiative of Premier Abang Jo, we have a lot of other economic activities going on. It’s up to us to really take advantage, utilise what is there.
“I would say, not to say we are arrogant, not to say we are overconfident, but I’m sure Belawai as a constituency will be in good hands, with the support of Premier, of course, and the leadership of the government,” Len told the D’Drift Team.

Notably, despite being situated in a low-lying area, the Belawai constituency has never experienced flooding. On this, Len attributed it to divine benevolence.
While the Melanau—who constitute the majority of Belawai’s residents—traditionally live in stilt houses, many homes in the area are now built on solid land.
“They used to be traditional stilt houses. The older ones remain on stilts, while the newer constructions often blend stilted and landed designs.
“There is no fear of flooding. If Belawai were to flood, it would signify that the entire state of Sarawak is under water. Despite its low-lying position and proximity to the sea, Belawai has never been flooded. I believe this is due to God’s abundant kindness,” Len said. — DayakDaily
