Belaga reps hope strict SOPs will stop Covid-19 spread in district

KUCHING, Feb 9: Three elected representatives from Belaga are pinning their hopes on the enforcement of strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) to halt the Covid-19 chain of transmission.

This issue was raised during the district Disaster Management Committee meeting in Belaga today which was chaired by Belaga district officer Juan Ubit.

The three elected representatives present at the meeting were Belaga assemblyman Datuk Liwan Lagang, Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon and Ulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong.

“It is with great hope that the chain of transmission of Covid-19 in Belaga could be stopped as we have put in place strict SOP,” Liwan told DayakDaily after attending the Belaga District Disaster Management Committee at the Belaga district office this afternoon.

He said residents at three locations under lockdown, namely Uma Badeng, Sekapan Panjang longhouse and SK Airport have undergone swab tests, and this afternoon, residents from most nearby villages were also swab tested including Belaga town folk.

“We would like to appeal to the people living near the three lockdown areas to give their fullest cooperation and support to the district Disaster Management Committee to ensure that we can stop the spread of the coronavirus,” said Liwan.

After the meeting Liwan handed minor rural project (MRP) funds totaling RM30,000 to the district Disaster Management Committee, while Ugak gave RM15,000 and Chukpai (RM10,000).

Meanwhile, Liwan who is also Assistant Minister of Utilities (Rural Electricity Supply) revealed tomorrow he will be going to Merit, Kapit to supervise the distribution of food baskets there as the area is currently under Movement Control Order (MCO) due to the spike of Covid-19 cases in Kapit division.
