KUCHING, Dec 14: The Belaga police station was engulfed in flames this afternoon.
According to Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operation center, they received an emergency call regarding the incident at 1.19 pm, and had dispatched firemen from Belaga fire station to the scene.
“A total of five firefighters led by PBK II Stephen Plen were deployed to the location, and the Volunteer Fire and Rescue Force were also contacted as an early response to the incident,” said Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department in a statement today.
The statement noted it would take four hours for the firefighters to reach the location using four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicles.
Meanwhile, Belaga assemblyman Datuk Liwan Lagang said he will visit the site tomorrow to assess the damage and to give moral support to the affected police personnel.
“We hope that the federal government will build a new one for the police in belaga,” he said, adding that the station should have been upgraded as it was already in dilapidated state.
He also conveyed  his sympathy to the affected police personnel and their families.— DayakDaily
