MIRI, March 12: Bekenu assemblywoman Datuk Rosey Yunus is confident that the Peliau Beach Sea Sport Challenge can help accelerate economic recovery post-pandemic.
Organised by the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) Bekenu branch, it can attract more international tourists and promote the beach as a tourist destination if held on a larger scale.
“We also have the Pantai Peliau night market (Pasar Malam Peliau) held once a month to attract tourists to the beach,” said Rosey, who is also Rosey, who is also Sarawak Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Development (Women and Childhood Development) and Saberkas Bekenu branch advisor.
She added that it could complement the role played by Miri City in strengthening the region’s tourism sector.
“We have provided various recreational facilities at Pantai Peliau for tourists to come here,” Rosey said after launching the Peliau Beach Sea Sport Challenge today.
More than five events were held during the two-day event, which kicked off yesterday (March 11).
Initially, the event was known as the ‘Peliau Gaman Challenge’ and was first started in 2017 with activities such as bamboo raft, power pump boat races, paddle boat races, and tunnel boat racing. — DayakDaily
