KUCHING, Oct 18: The charity haircut at the recent 17th Kuching Intercultural Mooncake Festival 2018 managed to raise RM1,648 for the Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA).

Maison Monica Hair and Beauty Academy offered RM2 haircuts during the festival (from Sept 17 to 24) along Carpenter Street, and 824 people stepped forward to have their hair cut.

The festival’s committee co-chairman Sim Kiang Chiok said the money raised was to support SSPCA during this crucial period to help curb the spread of rabies in the state.

“We are happy to be able to help numerous non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and associations promote good causes for a better Sarawak at the festival,” he added, in a press release today.

The eight-day event themed ‘Sight, Sound and Taste’, he shared, drew about 200,000 visitors, which doubled the figure recorded in 2017.

“There is always something for everyone, and we were able to celebrate our unity in diversity together. The committee would like to thank all participants, visitors, committee members, volunteers and supporters for making the festival a success,” he said. – DayakDaily
