KUCHING, April 14: The breathtakingly beautiful ‘egg yolk’ sun slowly disappearing below the horizon yesterday before making another stunning appearance at daybreak today in Kuching is the aftermath of the hotter than usual weather the city is currently experiencing.

Sarawak is experiencing hotter weather recently which is expected to last until Monday (April 17) with the maximum temperature in the day likely to reach 36 degrees Celsius tomorrow (April 15).

However, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the heat wave has not yet arrived in earnest, as the weather is expected to improve and return to neutral from next Tuesday onwards.

The warm temperatures are common as Malaysia is currently in a transition from La Nina condition to El-Nino Southern Oscillation (Enso) neutral or inter-monsoon period forecast to persist through April, MetMalaysia told DayakDaily when contacted today.

From today until Monday, temperatures are expected to stay high between 34 and 36 degree Celsius in the morning, while rain coupled with thunderstorms can be expected in one or two areas, mainly in the rural and interior, during the late afternoon and night.

The MetMalaysia forecast indicates that Sarawak is not experiencing the annual heat wave yet.

As for the haze situation, Sarawak is still clear with the Air Pollutant Index Management System reporting moderate readings (51-100) in all areas.

MetMalaysia added that it is very rare for Malaysia and Sarawak to get the haze during the inter-monsoon period. — DayakDaily
