Be careful of ‘langau’ as Sarawak Election nears, Uggah cautions

Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas

SPAOH, April 9: Reject ‘langau’ (blow flies) now that the Sarawak Election is near, says Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

Uggah made the call here today, warning the people against the presence of those who are discrediting the government, spreading lies and making empty promises now that the Sarawak Election was approaching.

“Let us all reject these “Langau”(blow flies),” Uggah told the media when met at Spaoh today.

The term is commonly used to refer to those that are boastful and prone to spreading false information.

On the Covid-19 pandemic, Uggah who is also Sarawak Disaster Management Committee chairman, again advised rural folks to inform their respective district offices if they had to hold any wedding, funeral and other social gatherings.

“The district office can help in crowd control. The office can get Rela personnel to help to ensure social distancing and all standard operating procedures against the spread of Covid-19 can be administered.

“We all must never be complacent,” said the deputy chief minister.

He said in the last two months, SDMC had witnessed spikes in Covid-19 positive cases from such gatherings in longhouses and villages.

Meanwhile, Uggah who is also Bukit Saban assemblyman, took the opportunity to advise those who have yet to register themselves to be vaccinated to do so.

“In the Betong Division, about 72 per cent of its population has registered themselves,” said Uggah. — DayakDaily
