Bau police seize lorry and goods, arrest two for suspected smuggling

KUCHING, June 15: Two people were arrested by the police at a roadblock at Suba Buan, Bau yesterday on suspicion of smuggling.

The arrests were made at 12.30pm after police stopped the two suspects who were in a lorry carrying goods.

“The lorry was carrying a variety of fruits and vegetables from Kampung Serasot, heading towards Bau,” Bau District police chief DSP Poge Nyaon revealed in the press release.

“We suspected that the two suspects were smuggling the food as they used an illegal route from Indonesia to enter here.”

Poge disclosed the two suspects had no previous criminal records and the lorry and goods were confiscated by the police.

The two suspects were arrested under Sectio 159(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 2020. — DayakDaily
