KUCHING, March 25: Batu Kitang assemblyman Dato Lo Khere Chiang is actively facilitating the application to the Unit For Other Religions (Unifor) for RM150,000 to fund the St Matthias chapel on behalf of the villagers of Kampung Sinar Budi.

According to Lo, the funds are necessary to equip the chapel with amenities such as air conditioning units and parking facilities, while the remainder will be allocated towards taxes and loan repayments.

“The extra funds will be used to supply the church with facilities such as air conditioners and carparks whereas the rest will go to taxes and loans.

“If the place of worship is nice and comfortable, it will encourage more churchgoers to come,” Lo told DayakDaily today.

Unifor is expected to provide a response regarding the funding application for the chapel by the end of this year.

Totalling RM100,000 so far, the chapel’s construction has seen villagers pooling funds through community efforts, supplemented by additional financial support from the Anglican church body to facilitate its construction.

Lo visited the chapel to witness the blessing ceremony for the new chapel which was presided over by the Right Reverend Datuk Danald Jute, Bishop of the Anglican Church in Sarawak and Brunei.

The blessing ceremony also took place in conjunction with Palm Sunday. — DayakDaily
