KUCHING, March 13: Sarawakians planning to return home for Hari Raya Aidilfitri will have more flight options this festive season, as Batik Air, Malaysia Airlines (MAS), and AirAsia are rolling out additional flights to meet an expected surge in travel demand.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MOTS), its minister, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, stated that from March 26 to April 6, 2025, the three airlines would add extra flights between Kuala Lumpur and Kuching, Sibu, Miri, and Bintulu to ease travel congestion and ensure that Sarawakians can reunite with their families and loved ones for the Aidilfitri celebration.
Batik Air will operate three additional daily flights on the Kuala Lumpur-Kuching route and two additional daily flights on the Kuala Lumpur-Sibu route from March 26 to 31.
MAS will operate one additional daily flight on the Kuala Lumpur–Kuching, Kuala Lumpur–Miri, Kuala Lumpur–Sibu, and Kuala Lumpur–Bintulu routes from March 28 to 29.
Additionally, MAS will operate one extra daily flight on the Kuala Lumpur–Kuching route on April 4 and 5, and on the Kuala Lumpur–Miri, Kuala Lumpur–Sibu, and Kuala Lumpur–Bintulu routes on April 5 and 6.
AirAsia will operate one additional daily flight on the Kuala Lumpur–Kuching route from March 29 to April 4, and one additional daily flight on the Kuala Lumpur–Sibu route from March 30 to April 4.
The airline will also add one additional daily flight on the Kuala Lumpur–Miri route from March 28 to April 4, and on the Kuala Lumpur–Bintulu route from March 30 to April 2.
In addition, AirAsia will operate one additional flight on the Johor–Sibu route on April 4, and one additional daily flight on the Johor–Kuching route from March 31 to April 4.
Lee extended his appreciation to the airlines for their cooperation and urged travelers to secure their seats early.
“The Ministry of Transport Sarawak will continue to work closely with major airlines to ensure sufficient flight capacity to meet public demand,” he added. — DayakDaily
