Batang Rambungan Bridge project delayed by 42 pct, JKR urged to step in

KUCHING, March 2: The Public Works Department (JKR) has been urged to monitor the Batang Rambungan Bridge construction project which is critically delayed by 42 per cent from its original schedule.

According to a news report from TV Sarawak (TVS) today, Sarawak Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure Development) Aidel Lariwoo made the call after the project, which is worth RM98.5 million and was launched on Nov 24, 2019, is recording slow progress for the third time.

“It was supposed to be completed in June this year, but due to the current situation, it is only expected to be completed by the end of 2024,” he told reporters after visiting the construction site of the Batang Rambungan Bridge today.

Meanwhile, asked about the cause of the delay, Aidel said lack of manpower and project implementation methods were identified as the main factors.

“We have also instructed the contractor to implement certain strategies to speed up the construction of the two large masts in the middle of the river and then we will be able to see better progress on this project,” he said. — DayakDaily
