KUCHING, March 30: Batang Lupar MP Mohamad Shafizan Kepli calls on the Federal government to return abandoned school sites in his constituency to the Sarawak government.

He is to be done to allow the Sarawak government to develop the land for the benefits of the locals.

According to a news report of TV Sarawak (TVS) yesterday (March 29), Mohamad Shafizan said one of the abandoned school is SK Beladin while the other one is in Pusa district.

“This is in line with the assurance given by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim when he visited Kuching January this year, saying that land owned by the Federal Government in the State which was leased since the 1970s and 1980s, and has not been developed or has no development plan, must be returned to the State government after three months,” he was quoted saying by TVS.

Asked about how the school site can be developed for the benefit of the surrounding residents, Mohamad Shafizan said the Sarawak government is planning to use it for the extension of Datuk Temenggong Kadir Square which is located by the river up to the school site area.

He said as the land is still the property of the Federal Government, the project has to be postponed.

The delay in releasing the land has became a major obstacle for the Sarawak Government to develop the area. – DayakDaily.
