DARO, Oct 30: The Batang Lupar 2 Bridge in Sri Aman is scheduled to be open to the public tomorrow (Oct 31), providing another major connectivity link in Sarawak.
According to caretaker Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, these infrastructure projects reflect the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government’s commitment to continuing development initiatives that benefit the people.
He said this during the soft opening ceremony of the Batang Paloh Bridge here today, as reported by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).
Commenting on the RM299 million Batang Paloh Bridge, he said it is one of the 13 of the 22 major bridge construction projects in Sarawak that have been completed, involving a total project value of approximately RM7 billion, fully funded by the State government, to strengthen connectivity and improve accessibility for the people.
He added that the development of the state’s transport network was also complemented by the construction of the 890-kilometre Coastal Road and the Second Trunk Road.
Together, these routes, along with major bridges, form a more comprehensive transport network, facilitating movement and improving connectivity between areas.
“When I first came to this area in late 2000, we had to use boats to get here. However, today, the situation has changed significantly,” he said.
He acknowledged that the project experienced delays, but said cooperation among the Public Works Department (JKR), the contractor, the Department of Rivers, and relevant agencies made its opening possible. — DayakDaily
