KUCHING, April 8: The construction of the Batang Lassa bridge, which will connect Pulau Bruit and Daro town in Mukah Division through a coastal road network, is set to be finished by December this year.

According to national news agency Bernama, Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad stated that construction had reached 91.36 per cent completion as of March 25.

He noted that the Batang Lassa bridge is one of the Sarawak government’s coastal bridge projects, along with the Batang Paloh bridge in Semop constituency and the Batang Igan bridge in Jemoreng constituency.

“God willing, the people won’t need to use the ferry at Muara Batang Lassa as they do now when celebrating Aidilfitri in 2025,” he was quoted as saying in the news report.

Stretching over 2.43 kilometres across Batang Lassa, the RM597.58 million project, which started in 2019, holds the distinction of being the longest bridge in the State to span a river.

Additionally, Safiee revealed that in preparation for Hari Raya Aidilfitri this week, ferry services will be expanded from two ferries to three.

Furthermore, operating hours will be extended from 4am to 12 midnight to accommodate the higher volume of vehicles.

Safiee said that with the addition of ferries and operating hours, the wait time for vehicles to board the ferry will be reduced to approximately 30 minutes. — DayakDaily
