KUCHING, March 4: Route Q10 of BAS.MY Kuching will be the first to begin operations tomorrow (March 5), marking the start of the city’s new stage bus service.
The route, running from Open Air Market to Serian, spans 67km one-way and will be serviced by six new disability-friendly buses, covering 48 stops.
The Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) Sarawak announced this as BAS.MY Kuching will commence its phased operations starting tomorrow, marking a significant step in enhancing public transportation in the Greater Kuching area.
In a statement today, CVLB stated that the launch is part of the BAS.MY Kuching service, introduced under the Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) Programme by the federal government to modernise public transport.
The service will be rolled out in phases until April 2025, with 56 new buses eventually serving 10 routes across Greater Kuching.
BAS.MY Kuching will operate on an open payment system, allowing passengers to pay via debit or credit cards, e-wallets, or cash.
Additionally, Malaysian citizens can subscribe to a 30-Day BAS.MY Pass for RM50, granting unlimited rides for a month.
To enhance accessibility, persons with disabilities (OKU), senior citizens aged 60 and above, school students, and university students who are Malaysian citizens can apply for a BAS.MY Concession Card to enjoy free rides.
CVLB Sarawak, under the Ministry of Transport Malaysia (MOT), has reaffirmed its commitment to improving public transport, ensuring BAS.MY Kuching provides a reliable and accessible commuting option for residents in the Greater Kuching area. — DayakDaily
