KUCHING, March 11: The Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) Sarawak has announced a revision in bus fares under the BAS.MY Kuching initiative, reducing travel costs for commuters following public feedback.

CVLB Sarawak chairman Michael Kong noted that last week, CVLB Sarawak launched Route Q10, the first under the BAS.MY Kuching programme, connecting Open Air Market to Serian Bus Terminal along a 67km route with 48 stops.

Initially, fares ranged from RM1.00 to RM12.60, based on a fare structure implemented in 2009, which set rates at RM1.04 for the first 3km and RM0.18 for each subsequent kilometer.

However, after receiving concerns from commuters, CVLB Sarawak swiftly engaged in discussions with the Ministry of Transport Malaysia and has now approved a fare reduction for all BAS.MY routes nationwide.

“Effective March 11, 2025, the new rates will be RM0.94 for the first 2km and RM0.094 for each subsequent kilometer.

“With this revision, bus fares on the Q10 route (Open Air Market to Serian Bus Terminal) will now range from RM0.90 to RM7.10, making public transport even more affordable and accessible to all,” he said in a statement today.

He further stated that the swift fare adjustment, just five days after the initial trial, reflects CVLB’s responsiveness to public feedback and its dedication to making public transportation a viable and attractive choice for Sarawakians.

“As we continue to roll out BAS.MY Kuching, CVLB Sarawak remains committed to monitoring operations closely and making necessary improvements,” he added. – DayakDaily
