Baru urged to replace tainted pol sec with Sarawakian

Datuk Larry Sng

KUCHING, Sept 25: Julau MP Larry Sng said that Works Minister Baru Bian should dismiss his political secretary who has been alleged to be involved in corruption with immediate effect.

According to Sng, a Sarawakian should take up the vacated post.

“In my opinion the minister should dismiss his political secretary with immediate effect. We should not allow the bad example of a few to tarnish the good name of the party (Parti Keadilan Rakyat or PKR).

“Besides this, he should choose a Sarawakian to hold the post since Sarawakians are under-represented in political representation despite our contribution in the last 14th General Election,” Sng told DayakDaily.

Sng was referring the recent allegations against Zakaria Abdul Hamid, the political secretary to the Works Ministry.

One Ahmad Syukri Che Ab Razab had lodged a report with the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) against Zakaria who is vying for PKR Bera branch chief post and a seat in the PKR central committee.

It was alleged that Zakaria had abused his position as a public servant by promising contracts for developing or repairing infrastructure worth RM20,000 each during a meeting with local leaders on Sept 1, 2018 in Pahang.

He was also alleged to have promised an allocation of at least RM300,000 during the same meeting.

Baru who just returned from overseas issued a statement in response, expressing shock but indicating his welcome of all investigations by relevant authorities. — DayakDaily
