KUCHING, March 13: Independent Selangau MP Baru Bian believed there is still hope for Malaysia in spite of the new Perikatan Nasional federal government comprising UMNO, PAS and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

Baru, former Works Minister under the previous Pakatan Harapan government and also former Sarawak PKR chief, said it is not all doom and gloom, as long as the people remained united to fight against injustice and continue to speak up against unrighteous leaders.

He believed that Sarawak can be a role model to other states in terms of racial harmony and on course to become a developed state through education and infrastructure development.

“Malaysia has gone through the trauma of a political haemorrhage and understandably, many Malaysians are disillusioned and bitter about the outcome.

“However, the simple fact is that there is still hope as long as we, the people, do not give up and resolve to unite to fight the injustices that have been inflicted upon us.

“There is still hope if we believe that there are still good and sincere leaders from the different races who are ready to lead us. There is still hope if the voters continue to fearlessly speak up against all those who have betrayed our trust,” he said in a statement.

The Ba’kelalan assemblyman added that Sarawak has the potential to make the difference in Malaysia, to be the model state for peaceful racial relationships, harmonious living and religious acceptance.

Sarawak also has the potential and resources to be an economic powerhouse and an advanced agricultural centre, he continued.

Baru said for Sarawak to achieve its goal to become a high income and developed state by 2030, there are three key areas that needed to be focused on, which are unity, infrastructure development and education.

“Unity of Sarawakians will ensure political stability and cohesion in the state government, while good road infrastructure will become the catalyst for economic growth of Sarawak.

“Education is the key to enlightenment and freedom from manipulation and oppression. Education will also pave the way to personal growth and potentially contribute to Malaysia’s economic growth and the society at large,” he continued. — DayakDaily
