KUCHING, March 28: Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sarawak chairman Minister Baru Bian denies that he is in favour of surveying native customary rights (NCR) lands through perimeter survey instead of survey for individual title under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code.

“The Pakatan Harapan federal government has allocated RM40 million in 2019 for a special programme focussed on Sarawak’s Bumiputera. Of the RM40 million, a grant of RM21.5 million is reserved specifically for the survey of NCR lands.

“On the 18th of March, 2019, at the Mesyuarat Majlis Tindakan Negeri Sarawak (Bilangan 1 Tahun 2019) which I chaired, I had made it very clear that the said grant of RM21.5 million will be used to survey individual titles under Section 18 and not for perimeter survey under Section 6 of the Sarawak Land Code.

“So my stand and the stand of Pakatan Harapan Sarawak on this issue has not changed as alleged and viralled in the social media,” said Baru in a statement today.

He was refuting a viral report on social media alleging that the PH Sarawak chairman had changed his stand to favour perimeter survey instead of survey for individual title under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code.

Baru noted that prior to the change of government on May 9, 2018, federal government funding of perimeter survey was used to survey NCR lands under Section 6 of the Sarawak Land Code. — DayakDaily
