BARIO, Aug 20: Safe access to clean water and reliable road networks are fundamental necessities that underpin the wellbeing of rural communities, said Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Uksa) news report, he stressed that upgraded roads not only ease the movement of residents but also create economic opportunities, improve access to education, and strengthen healthcare services.
“Likewise, the construction of clean water treatment plants is a basic right that must be prioritised. We take pride in seeing these efforts gradually becoming a reality for the people here,” he said.
Gerawat made the remarks during a project monitoring visit in Bario on Tuesday (Aug 19), along with Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
The visit covered several villages, including Pa Mada, Pa Dalih, Ramudu, and Batu Patong.
The delegation reviewed the progress of logging road upgrades and the construction of clean water treatment plants carried out by the Highland Development Agency (HDA) under the coordination of the Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda).
The visit also served as a platform for government agencies, contractors, and community leaders to assess the effectiveness of the projects and ensure smooth implementation according to schedule.
Gerawat further expressed appreciation to Recoda and HDA for their continued commitment to strengthening Sarawak’s rural infrastructure.
He expressed confidence that with the cooperation of all stakeholders, the projects would be successfully completed and deliver long-term benefits to the local communities. — DayakDaily
