Bangau-Bangau Cluster in Semporna detected via patient screenings

KUCHING, Sept 22: The Ministry of Health today confirmed a new Covid-19 cluster, identified as the Bangau-Bangau Cluster in Semporna, Sabah.

Its director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah disclosed that this cluster was identified after five positive cases were detected through screening patients being admitted into Semporna Hospital.

“On Sept 21, a total of five positive cases involving four Malaysians and one foreigner were detected. All of them showed no symptoms and they were admitted into Semporna Hospital for treatment.

“As of 12 noon today (Sept 22), a total of 97 individuals have been screened. The other 95 cases are still awaiting laboratory results,” Dr Noor Hisham revealed during a press conference in Putrajaya today.

While the source of the cluster is still under investigation, he added that Semporna Hospital is open as usual.

Meanwhile, to-date, the Pulau Cluster and Selamat Cluster which are also in Sabah have recorded 35 and 25 Covid-19 cases respectively.

“From the 35 positive cases in the Pulau Cluster, 31 are Malaysians, while the remaining four are Filipinos. Today, this cluster recorded six new cases. A total of 595 individuals from Kunak (489) and Semporna (106) have been screened, of which 307 are still awaiting test results,” Dr Noor Hisham said.

As for the Selamat Cluster, six new cases were recorded today, bringing the total of infections in the cluster to 25.

Four of the cases are foreigners, while the remaining 21 are Malaysians.

A total of 246 individuals have been screened and 196 are still awaiting test results. — DayakDaily
