Bandar Riyal Cluster arises from Samarahan community market with 47 cases

KUCHING, Aug 12: Some 47 individuals consisting of workers and visitors of a community market in Samarahan have tested positive for Covid-19, triggering the new Bandar Riyal Cluster.

According to a report from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the Bandar Riyal Cluster is a workplace cluster of a community market and eateries located at the commercial centre of Bandar Riyal at Jalan Datuk Muhammad Musa, Kota Samarahan.


At present, a total of 469 people from the cluster have been swabbed out of which 47 people have tested positive and the balance of 422 people have tested negative.

SDMC said the Covid-19 patients have been admitted to Sarawak Heart Centre and Unimas Covid-19 Quarantine and Low Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) for further treatment.

The Bandar Riyal Cluster was one of the three new clusters identified in Sarawak.

The other two new clusters are the Kampung Bungey 2 Cluster in Betong and Lubuk Bukut Cluster in Mukah.

On the other hand, the Sungai Entajum Cluster in Tatau and Pagar Serian Cluster in Serian have ended.

With three new clusters emerging and two active clusters having ended, there are 96 active clusters of Covid-19 in Sarawak, out of which 18 active clusters reported 215 new cases. — DayakDaily
