KUCHING, Jan 16: Human Resource Minister Steven Sim has recently proposed to establish three more Social Security Organisation (SOSCO) rehabilitation centres including in Sabah and Sarawak within the next five years.

In welcoming this proposal, Bandar Kuching Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen said he will work closely with the Ministry of Human Resource and SOCSO to ensure that the proposal is implemented properly taking into account all necessary factors for the good of the people in the region.

Dr Yii stressed that there is an urgent need for rehabilitation globally including in Malaysia due to ageing population and the surge of chronic illnesses (NCDs) in our country.

“Currently there is only one centre operating which is the Tun Abdul Razak Perkeso Rehabilitation Centre in Ayer Keroh Melaka.

“The second centre which is built in Ipoh is scheduled to begin operations this year and a third in Terengganu which is still under construction.

“Currently, there is none (centre) in East Malaysia and those that apply into such rehabilitation centres need to fly all the way and that causes a lot of inconvenience especially those dependent on family members to take care of them,” he said in a statement today.

SOCSO Rehabilitation Center is an international standard rehabilitation center that help SOCSO Insured Persons and employees to be physically and vocationally rehabilitated until they return to work and be socially reintegrated with maximum capacity. – DayakDaily
