Bandar Kuching MP reveals how he used his RM1m allocation in 2018

Dr Kelvin Yii

KUCHING, Jan 7: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kevin Yii today revealed that he had disbursed RM758,482 for 155 projects and welfare aid last year from his MP budget allocation.

In a statement, he said all the projects had been completed, except for the upgrading and renovation of schools, where work could only start at the end of the year during the school holidays.

He said initially his allocation was only RM500,000, which he received in the middle of the year. Then Putrajaya gave an additional RM500,000 in October.

“These allocations do not take into account the additional allocations we managed to obtain from the federal government through different ministries for the benefit of the people,” he said.

Dr Yii said there were guidelines on how the allocations were to be used. For instance, for welfare aid and disaster relief, the maximum one-off aid is RM1,000 per person; for associations, the maximum per association is RM5,000; and for small projects, the maximum per project is RM50,000.

“All recipients of these allocations are required to furnish official reports of their activities and expenditures for accounting purposes and to ensure transparency,” he explained.

Dr Yii said he had yet to be informed how much he would be getting for this year, but his office has already made plans for activities, projects and community-based programmes for the benefit of the constituents.

“We will continue to declare all our annual expenditure in the spirit of accountability and transparency,” he assured. — DayakDaily
