Bandar Kuching MP helps SK Batu Lintang with RM50,000 allocation

KUCHING, Feb 21: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii heeds the distress call of SK Batu Lintang after allocating RM50,000 for much-needed repairs, renovations and upgrades to the school.

The allocation would be used to install new awnings on a roofed corridor between the staff’s office and the canteen block so pupils and teachers could walk to these locations regardless of the weather.

Apart from that, the allocation would also be used to repair the leaking roof of the whole block.

“I have paid a few courtesy visits to the school and spoke to the principal and teachers of the school to find out their needs and concerns and how best we could partner with them to provide a better environment for the students.

“I was then alerted of the bad condition of the roof and how it leaks when it rains. On top of that, the zinc for the old awning from that particular block connecting to the canteen was rusty and could not be used anymore,” he said in a press statement today.

Dr Yii said the upgrading works had been completed about a month ago, but he personally made another visit to the school to ensure everything was fine now.

“The headmistress and staff of SK Batu Lintang were grateful for the changes made, and I hope it would help provide a better and more conducive environment for the pupils and teachers,” he said.

He said education had always been something close to his heart, and he had been to most of the schools within his constituency to find out their needs and to help out in any way he could. — DayakDaily
