KUCHING, April 13: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii has urged Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh to lead by example in politics rather than resorting to “name-calling” when expressing disagreement with government ministers.

Dr Yii emphasised in a statement today that as a young leader, Dr Akmal should engage in proper and mature arguments to either refute statements or offer constructive criticism.

“Argue policy with policy, proposals with better proposals, discourse with mature discourse. Only than our politics can mature and really add value to our society,” he said.

Dr Yii was commenting on Dr Akmal’s recent brickbats with Federal Minister Nga Kor Ming for saying that his boycotts had weakened the country’s economy.

He added  that Malaysian politics should not rely solely on name-calling or mudslinging, which has contributed to the deterioration of the current state of political discourse in the country.

“That should be the aspiration of all young leaders in our country as we push for a more mature democracy and mature politics to replace old politics of old that does not add value to the society,” he said. — DayakDaily
