BALAI RINGIN, Aug 21: Oil palm farmers in Balai Ringin are urged to adapt to new technology to ensure optimum land usage and increase their harvest.
Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan, who is also Balai Ringin assemblyman, stressed that the shift from traditional to modern ways is important to improve the agricultural sector.
Only with such effort, he said, will attract the interest of youths to venture into the field and reduce the migration of the youngsters to urban areas.
He said this when speaking at the National Initiative on Sustainable and Climate Smart Oil Palm Smallholders (NI-SCOPS) Workshop held at Depo Balai Ringin here yesterday (Aug 20).
The workshop, held by Kampung Ensebang Sungai Burak Village Development and Security (JKKK) in collaboration with Solidaridad Network (Malaysia) Berhad, saw the participation of 732 people.
Also present were Solidaridad Network (Malaysia) Berhad regional manager Edner Patrick Stephen, Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) managing director Richard Lias, Balai Ringin Sub-district Officer Mohd Adam Muslim, and the event’s coordinator Briten Usop. — DayakDaily
