Baitulmal, Waqf Board encouraged to focus on education to align with S’wak’s aspirations

KUCHING, July 1: The Baitulmal and Waqf Board have been encouraged to focus on education in line with the Sarawak government’s aspiration to provide free higher education to Sarawakian students starting next year through the Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES).

According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), this was proposed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during a courtesy call from Baitulmal and Waqf Board members at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

The courtesy visit aimed to brief the Sarawak Premier on the current operations and management of the Baitulmal and Waqf institutions in the State.

Baitulmal and Waqf Board members Datu Abang Helmi Tan Sri Abang Ikhwan, Sarawak Financial Secretary, Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, Sarawak Mufti Datu Kipli Yassin, Dato Sri Abang Abdul Karim Tun Abang Openg, and Datu Abdul Razak Tready were also present.

Meanwhile, also joining the courtesy visit were the management of the Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS), Datu Abang Mohd Shibli, Abang Mohd Nailie, Bolhassan Iskandar Taibi, Abang Faisal, Abang Marzuki, and Iskandar Allan. — DayakDaily
