KUCHING, March 26: Ba’ Kelalan assemblyman Baru Bian has vowed to take all necessary steps, including the commencement of legal proceedings, against those responsible for publishing defamatory allegations linking him to drug-related activities and corruption in Lawas.

In a statement today, Baru said the allegations were made in a Facebook page “Kam Agong Lawas Sarawak” on March 25 and later republished and broadcast in a Berita 757 news segment the same day.

The post also implicated Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Lawas member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Henry Sum Agong.

Baru described the claims as “entirely baseless, malicious, and clearly intended to damage my credibility and reputation as the assemblyman for N81 Ba’ Kelalan”.

“The statements made by this person are false, defamatory, and constitute a serious attack on my character and integrity. They appear to have been made with malice and the clear intention of bringing me into public disrepute,” he added.

He added that while the individual behind the Facebook page had made similar postings in the past, the latest allegations had “crossed a serious line”. — DayakDaily
