KUCHING, May 28: Each household head of B40 groups in Sarawak will receive cash payments of RM250 per month for six months from July 31 to Dec 31, while B40 singles aged 21 and above will receive one-off payments of RM500 from Aug 31.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg made the announcement today in line with the Sarawak government’s sixth Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS 6.0) cash aid today.

He said the list of recipients for this aid would be based on data of all B40 recipients in the previous BKSS packages including those under the Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat (BPR) 2021.

“Payments will be credited to their respective bank accounts and those who do not have a bank account can claim from any Bank Simpanan Nasional branches,” he said in a press conference at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

Abang Johari also stated that this particular cash assistance would involve an expenditure of RM970 million from the Sarawak government and will benefit more than one million recipients in Sarawak.

This is only one out of a total of 15 measures to be implemented under BKSS 6.0 with nine measures involving cash incentives and six measures on discount incentives.

The 15 measures altogether will incur an expenditure of RM1.4 billion on the Sarawak government including ongoing measures that have been taken to reduce the burden and assist the people in these trying times.

Meanwhile, the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government had spent a total of RM3.1 billion in rolling out five BKSS packages since the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020 ad the implementation of various phases of MCO. — DayakDaily
