KUCHING, Oct 25: In a twist of fate that many can only dream of, 42-year-old Mohamad Hasta Karim has been announced as the 104th millionaire in Bank Simpanan Nasional’s (BSN) history, thanks to their popular SSP (Sijil Simpanan Premium) draw.

Hailing from Kampung Hilir Serian, Mohamad Hasta, who sells ‘ayam panggang’ (grilled chicken) at a night market in Serian, is the sixth Sarawakian who has won the RM1 million reward since it was first introduced in 2014.

He revealed that he opened his savings account at BSN in 2014 and only periodically deposits some money whenever he has extra income.

He said he found out about his win from his friends before receiving a call from the bank earlier this month.

At first, he was sceptical of the news and even thought that the announcement could be a scam.

“I initially started saving up for future emergencies. Becoming a millionaire never crossed my mind.

“It’s impossible for me to save up to RM1 million even in ten years. Thus, I thank BSN for this golden opportunity,” he told reporters during an interview at a local hotel here today.

The hardworking husband and father of three said he had no immediate plans for his prize money except to keep it first, but he did not rule out the possibility of upgrading his stall and business.

“If possible, I also want to bring my family to perform Umrah (Islamic pilgrimage ritual) together,” he added.

Mohamad Hasta further encouraged members of the public to save and invest their savings in BSN SSP, stating that they can always start small.

“Don’t be afraid to save up, even if it’s only RM100 for a start. Through that, they can stand a chance to win RM1 million every month,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
