KUCHING, Nov 20: Sarawak aims to capture a share of the Asia Pacific aerospace aftermarket, which is projected to reach RM15 trillion over the next two decades, says Minister of International Trade, Industry, and Investment (MINTRED) Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
According to Awang Tengah, Sarawak’s strategic push into the aerospace industry is supported by plans to construct a new airport in Kuching, offering modern infrastructure to facilitate industry growth.
“This (new airport construction) is in tandem with the proposal by the Federal Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) to develop Sarawak as the aerospace hub for Borneo, which will further broaden our economic growth strategy,” said Awang Tengah during his winding-up speech during the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today.
The Sarawak government has implemented key initiatives to build a robust and sustainable aerospace ecosystem that includes establishing an Aerospace Academy at CENTEXS to train a skilled local workforce, fostering global collaborations with global aerospace leaders such as Airbus and Boeing, and developing cutting-edge technology for designing, manufacturing, and testing aerospace systems. — DayakDaily
